Susan Cherry - Rotary District 7850 Governor
District Vision for 2023-2024

Our theme for this year: "Create Hope in the World"

Background: Susan moved to St. Johnsbury in 1978 and started teaching K-8 music at the public schools. She and her husband of 42 years, Martin (also a Rotarian) raised their 4 children in St. Johnsbury and now run a bed and breakfast in town. Susan got her VT principal’s license in 2011, but chose instead to focus on Restorative Justice. After 10 years of service, Susan Cherry recently retired from the Community Restorative Justice Center in St. Johnsbury, VT.  Prior to her role as Executive Director of CRJC, Susan spent 35 years teaching music in the St. Johnsbury schools. Susan has conducted trainings at the International Institute of Restorative Practices in Bethlehem, PA, studied under Kay Pranis at Conrad Grebel University, and regularly conducts professional development activities at schools around New England. When not at work, she enjoys sailing and spending time with her 6 grandchildren. Since 2013, Susan has lead the Summer Institute for Restorative Practices, with over 20 schools in Vermont sending staff there for training. She also served 10 years on the Planning Commission, was a leader in Girl Scouting, Choir Director and organist, hosting coordinator for American Field Service, and taught private music lessons in her home. She is a graduate of the Snelling Leadership Institute.

She is a member of the St Johnsbury club, remains as club Fund Raising Chair, is on the faculty of RLI, and Chairs the District Rotary Youth Exchange program.

She will present components of the latest Rotary Vision and share important District updates.
