May 19 Program Paul Perrault, President, Chittenden Bank
Advances in technology have made many new services and capabilities available to banking customers over the past 10 years, at little or no cost to the customer, says Paul Perrault.
With each new innovation, however, people still prefer to have a choice of how to do their banking, and everyone still wants to be able to come into a branch location and deal with service representatives.
Turning his attention to the economic health of Vermont, Paul reminded the Club that forecasts are for the population to double within the next 10 years, and that it is important for the development rules to be changed to encourage development within downtowns.
Paul reminded that Club that while Vermont would like to be known for its quality of life, that may no longer be as strong a reason for people to live and work here, since there are many nice places in the country, and with better weather too.
Paul called for the development of a new identity and a sense of "place", not a Vermont separated from the rest of the region but an active part of it.
Paul has overseen substantial growth and development within the Chittenden Corporation during his tenure, and we thank him for sharing his insights.
